Mariah Covington, LPC

Ms. Covington has spent over ten years practicing in mental health settings. Ms. Covington has practiced on the DBT team for many years at Wake Kendall; she is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and prolonged exposure therapy for PTSD (DBT-PE). Prior to joining the WKG, Ms. Covington was responsible for implementing DBT STEPS-A (Dialectical Behavior Therapy: Skills for Training Emotional Problem Solving for Adolescents) at a boarding school for at-risk youth in Washington, DC. Prior to that, Ms. Covington worked at a residential treatment facility for adolescents, where she conducted and published peer reviewed journal articles on the effectiveness of DBT. In this role, she also co-facilitated DBT group skills training. Ms. Covington has worked extensively with adolescents who have experienced trauma, cognitive difficulties, mood disorders, ADHD, anxiety, and depression. She also works collaboratively with parents to facilitate behavioral change and provide continuity of care. Ms. Covington’s approach to treatment is genuine, collaborative, and she prides herself on promoting change by showing care and concern. Ms. Covington earned her M.A. in Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and her B.A. in Sociology from Howard University.

Ms. Covington is licensed to practice in DC and MD.
