Do you need help supporting your loved one?

Partners, spouses, parents, siblings and close friends of clients in a DBT program in the DC metro area often benefit from extra support and guidance. Our Friends & Family Series helps loved ones of individuals with emotion regulation difficulties build a foundation in DBT to support and strengthen their relationships.

Group Goals

  • Learn the structure and purpose of DBT.
  • Discover how to support your loved one in therapy.
  • Build skills to regulate yourself in challenging situations.
  • Gain support from others with similar experiences.
  • Improve communication and interactions with loved ones.
  • Explore DBT-based tools: mindfulness, interpersonal skills, behavior strategies, and cognitive-behavioral principles.
  • Practice changing your own behavior to positively influence others.
Who Should Attend?
  • Parents, partners, siblings, or close friends of individuals who experience intense emotions and problematic behavior patterns (family member may be enrolled in DBT but this is not a requirement)
  • Anyone who wants to better understand DBT and support their loved one’s journey
