Types of Psychological Testing

At The Wake Kendall Group, we perform a variety of assessments for individuals in the Washington DC metro area and beyond. Here are some of our most frequently requested offerings.

Comprehensive Neuropsychological Evaluations

School and work require us to rely on a wide spectrum of abilities, including abstract reasoning, language skills, auditory and visual processing, visual-motor skills, memory, attention, and executive functioning. We offer a comprehensive range of tests to evaluate these functions for clients of all ages.

Psycho-Educational Testing

Our team members consult with schools and families to help educators, students, and their parents learn more about the nature of difficulties with learning. To do this, we use formal and informal achievement testing, along with cognitive assessments.

Social and Emotional Assessments

When there are concerns about a client’s social-emotional factors, our psychologists work to better understand their personality and emotional functioning by using interviews, questionnaires, and projective techniques.

Early Childhood Evaluations

Our psychologists partner with parents and early childhood educators to evaluate social-emotional, cognitive, and neuropsychological development in young children.

School Admissions Testing

School admissions testing focuses on cognitive functioning as it applies to learning. Our team examines verbal comprehension, non-verbal/visual-spatial skills, working memory, processing speed, and fluid reasoning, among other factors.

What to Expect During the Testing Process

Our Washington DC-based team at The Wake Kendall Group will explain each step of the process for psychoeducational testing to ensure everything runs smoothly. We can answer any questions and provide clarification in an intake call and as needed moving forward.

A typical testing process includes the following steps:

  • We learn about the patient’s medical and developmental history, along with current strengths, needs, and concerns.
  • With permission from the family, our team consults with a student’s teachers and reviews school records. Classroom observations may also be completed.
  • We complete individual testing that helps us better understand the individual’s cognitive, academic, and neuropsychological strengths and weaknesses.
  • We will meet with the parents and/or client to review results and recommendations in an interpretive conference.

Once the testing process is complete, we will make sure you feel confident about the next steps and have a clear and positive plan to move forward. We create a comprehensive written report that includes assessment results, analysis, and recommendations. The goal of this report is to help you and your family understand and utilize the client’s strengths, address the weaknesses, and help them achieve their full potential.
