Ms. Covington has spent over ten years practicing in mental health settings. Ms. Covington is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and prolonged exposure therapy for PTSD (DBT-PE). At WKG, Ms. Covington works with adults and adolescents, both within our adult DBT program and in our general practice. Ms. Covington has worked extensively with clients presenting with trauma, cognitive difficulties, mood disorders, ADHD, anxiety, and depression. She works collaboratively with parents of adolescent clients to facilitate behavioral change and provide continuity of care. Her approach to treatment is genuine, collaborative, and she prides herself on promoting change by showing care and concern. Prior to joining WKG, Ms. Covington was responsible for implementing DBT STEPS-A (Dialectical Behavior Therapy: Skills for Training Emotional Problem Solving for Adolescents) at a boarding school for at-risk youth in Washington, DC. She has also worked in residential treatment facilities and conducted and published peer reviewed journal articles on the effectiveness of DBT. Ms. Covington earned her M.A. in Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and her B.A. in Sociology from Howard University.
